Crossover Phase II AAU
Carl is a member of our AAU team who recently shared his heart at our youth club. He talked about how he was a very angry person when he first joined Crossover five years ago. During one game, he recalled, he punched his hand into the wall at the gym. His hand was sprained and swollen. Carl shared that since then he has committed his life to Christ and now has become slow to anger.
Every day, Carl sends a text message with scripture to his friends and teammates. His desire is to see more youth acquainted with the word of God. Praise the Lord!
Crossover Youth Basketball
Every Friday we meet with youth at Valley High School and play basketball. We usually spend time doing drills and talking at the end of each session. We have had some new faces come through from time to time and it is an awesome time of building relationships with the youth in our community.
We usually have several different adult coaches/mentors out doing the drills, including Coaches Will, Rob, Royal, Paul and Re???. They are very positive and spend time talking to youth about character, grades and their relationship with the Lord. Once a month, we have our Crossover Youth Club and about 15 youth come out to our house to eat, play games and talk about the Lord. Youth come from our league and from the AAU team.
After School Program
Our after school program at Samuel Jackman Middle School is going well. The youth are excited about the program and asked if we can have it more than two days a week. We had a visit from someone who evaluated after school programs and they said we were ahead of schedule for most after school programs during this time of year. The program consists of sports, activities and small groups. Already this semester, we have talked with the students about drugs, smoking and alcohol.
We were excited to have Mike Wilks speak to the students. He just signed with the Denver Nuggets and is getting ready to start his 6th season in the NBA.
Once a month we have a quiz show competition and the team who knows the most information on what we taught that month wins prizes. The after-school program evaluator would like to see us work with some elementary schools in the community. Please pray as we seek guidance and wisdom for the potential of starting elementary after school programs.
An update for you on Gene Holliday and his work with the James Rutter Middle School after school program: Gene is now working at South Point Christian School and is a substitute teacher at Rutter's after school program. Everything is going well and the youth are excited every time he comes in.
Director's Corner
Please pray as we follow up on the opportunity to have after school programs at several area elementary schools.
Please pray as well for the Crossover Youth Club that meets once a month. As this ministry is growing, we will need a bigger place to have our meetings. W've taken a group to Great America and will follow up with youth on the talks we have had about Jesus.
Thank you for lifting this ministry and our staff up in prayer.
